Extraordinary legislative session fails to draw conclusions on the 2nd Generation NHI (2010/07/15)
Reported by Lee Shu-Jen and Tasi Pei-Fang from Taipei
The July extraordinary legislative session ended yesterday. The DOH Minister was disappointed at the results as the 2nd Generation NHI bill was not concluded. Cheng Shou-Hsia, the Director General of the BNHI, urges the opposition party to sit in next extraordinary legislative session and take part in the review of the 2nd Generation NHI Bill. This important bill should not be a sacrifice to the controversial ECFA, said Cheng.
The 2nd Generation NHI bill has not been discussed in the extraordinary legislative session in July. The DOH is now counting on the next extraordinary session. However, Yaung Chih-Liang holds a conservative attitude to it. He said he will fight till the last minute; but, what exactly does the last minute mean? Is he hinting a resignation? Yaung would not give a clear answer.
The Executive Yuan expressed today that the 2nd Generation NHI is one of the government's major policies. The EY is fully behind it and hopes the political parties could reach consensuses on this bill as soon as possible so as to expedite the enforcement of the 2nd Generation NHI act. Lin Yi-Shih, the head of the KMT policy committee, expressed that the negotiation is still ongoing and the bill will be on the agenda for next extraordinary legislative session.
