Taipei Police Office raided a counterfeit drug group in central Taiwan area and arrested Chung Huang-Chien who owns a bio-tech company and a chain of pharmacies. The police seized 3800 boxes of counterfeit drugs, which have a market value of over NT$6m.
Peitou Police Office received a report, saying that a counterfeit drug group has been manufacturing and selling fake drugs containing the active ingredient of Reductil (Sibutramine and Phenolphtha lene).
After two months of tracking, the police finally collected sufficient evidences of the drug company's criminal behavior.
The anti-counterfeit drug squad and health officials from the Taipei City Government searched various locations in Changhua County and Taichung City. The police detained five suspects for investigation and seized 3800 boxes of counterfeit drugs with a market value of over NT$6m.
The police expressed that according to the information from the TFDA, those seized counterfeit drugs all contain ingredients with high risks of severe side effects, including increase in blood pressure and heart beats. The police are now extending the investigation to track upstream suppliers and downstream distributors.
