¡@ Lilly,
founded in 1876, is a leading innovation-driven and
research-based pharmaceutical corporation dedicated to
excellence in the life sciences. Lilly is developing a growing
portfolio of pharmaceutical products that are among the best
in their class, and often first in their class, by applying
the latest research from its own worldwide laboratories, by
collaborating with eminent scientific organizations, and by
making use of the most up-to-date technological tools.
¡@Lilly has more than 43,000 employees worldwide and markets
its medicines in 146 countries. Lilly has major research and
development facilities in eight countries and conducts
clinical trials in more than 60 countries, including Taiwan.
In 2002, R&D expenditures were 19% of its total sales.
¡@Lilly began operations in Taiwan in 1966. Since then, the
Taiwan affiliate has steadily expanded its scale of
operations. Besides marketing high-quality pharmaceutical
products, the company is investing substantial sums of money
in conducting global and local clinical research. In the last
decade, Lilly Taiwan has introduced important new drugs for
the treatment of cancer, schizophrenia, osteoporosis,
diabetes, etc., and provided medical information services
which have helped people live healthier lives and improve
their quality of life. The company will continue to make
investments in clinical research in Taiwan, in order to
provide people more effective and safe clinical therapies.
¡@Lilly Taiwan will focus on the development of closer links
to government organizations, medical associations, and
advocacy groups. Through these links, Lilly hopes to make
positive contributions to the advancement of research and
technology in Taiwan's life science industry.
