APEC Sustainable Investment and Precision Health Conference focuses on post-pandemic business opportunities

The 2021 APEC Sustainable Investment and Precision Health Conference was held on the 14th in Taipei.  This event, attracting participants from 28 countries, was hosted by the MOEA, co-hosted by the MOFA and the MOST and conducted by the Taiwan Institution for Sustainable Energy.    As the pandemic continues affecting the world economy, it is even more important to contemplate how to use technological innovation to stimulate sustainable investment and create business opportunities.

This conference is a hybrid event, including both virtual meetings and in-person meetings.  Together, they attracted over 450 attendees online and offline, including the representatives of the APEC members, the NGOs, the industries, the business and the academic. 

Chen Yi-Ling, Secretary-General of the MOEA, said in the conference that the pandemic not only poses a huge threat to health, but also affects the global economy, the investments and the industrial supply chains.  Therefore, we must contemplate how to use technological innovation to improve the situations, for example to encourage sustainable investments and to create business opportunities, so as to stimulate post-pandemic economic growth.

The conference focused on the issues concerning precision health, precision medicine and the ecosystem for sustainable investment.  The participants expressed their thoughts about how to improve the accessibility and the robustness of the precision health/medicine. The discussion results will be forwarded to the APEC expert group in investment to support their policies on economic growth.

Chang Ming-Bin, Director of the Investment Division of the MOEA, said that, in the post-pandemic ear, as the world economy recovers, we need to focus more on sustainable investment.  This fruitful event will certainly stimulate more follow-up discussions.
