During a second meeting of the Presidential Office's Healthy Taiwan Promotion Committee, the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) on Nov. 28 outlined plans to improve cancer prevention care and reduce the standardized mortality ratio of cancer by one-third by 2030.
The MOHW’s plans include increasing the number of people receiving early cancer screening from five million people to 12 million by 2030, promoting genetic tests and precision medicine, and establishing a NT$10 billion Cancer Drug Fund (CDF) to provide conditional coverage of new cancer drugs and to better align with international standards.
Regarding the CDF, the MOHW said that while NT$5 billion in funding will be allocated from the central government budget in the near-term, the long-term goal is to establish new funding sources through legislation to achieve a scale reaching NT$10 billion.
