Mr. Cho Jung-Tai, Premier of the Executive Yuan, announced that the government will guarantee a minimum NHI service point value of NT$0.9 this year. He also directed that payments for new cancer drugs, orphan drugs, and nursing workforce policies be removed from the NHI global budget, with the government allocating NT$18.1 billion to the general budget to cover these expenses. Furthermore, the NHI Fund will receive an additional NT$15.5 billion from the government. In total, the government has committed to injecting NT$33.6 billion into the NHI system to ensure its stability.
Premier Cho highlighted three key principles of this subsidy scheme. First, top priority will be given to covering treatments for COVID-19 and influenza-like illnesses. Second, in areas where the overall point value falls below NT$0.9, it will be raised to NT$0.9. Third, in areas where the overall point value exceeds NT$0.9, a proportional subsidy will be provided.
According to Premier Cho, this approach is supported by President Lai, who recognizes and appreciates the hard work and dedication of healthcare professionals in safeguarding public health. As a result, the Executive Yuan formulated this subsidy scheme.
For the 2025 NHI global budget, the government will transfer payments for new cancer drugs, orphan drugs, and nursing workforce policies from the NHI global budget to the general government budget. Additionally, NT$15.5 billion will be allocated to directly supplement the NHI fund. In total, NT$33.6 billion will be dedicated to maintaining the stability of the NHI budget.
