The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) on Jan. 9 announced that it has the 2025 National Health Insurance (NHI) global budget at NT$ 928.6248 billion, representing an annual growth of 5.5%, up NT$ 48.4078 billion from the base of NT$ 880.217 billion, marking a new record high.
On the 2025 NHI global budget, MOHW’s Department of Social Insurance highlighted that allocations have been made to the following areas:
- NT$8.102 billion for new medical technologies, adjustments for new drugs and medical devices, and conditional listings.
- NT$18.026 billion for orphan drugs, hemophilia drugs, and medical devices for rare disorders, to ensure patient access.
- NT$3.916 billion for improving healthcare services in rural areas.
- NT$3.106 billion for long-acting injectable antipsychotics to enhance care for individuals with psychosis.
- NT$9.378 billion for the development and expansion of telemedicine services.
The Department of Social Insurance also underscored NHI’s financial stability as the NHI safety reserves is expected to hold above the legally required threshold equivalent to one month of expenditures throughout 2025. Additionally, MOHW sought an additional $NT33.56 billion in central government funding to shore up NHI finances in 2025, such as having the central government provide NT$11.1 billion for public health and preventive care programs, which were funded by the NHI global budget.
