Premier Cho Jung-tai urges legislature to conduct rational review of 2025 central government budget
2025/02/14

AmCham Taiwan and the American Institute in Taiwan on Feb. 11 held the “2025 Taiwan Healthy Aging Forum: Public-private partnership for holistic health.” During the forum, Premier Cho Jung-tai said that in 2025, the government allocated an additional NT$ 33.6 billion budget for healthcare, with NT$ 5 billion allocated to the Cancer Drug Fund. He urged the Legislative Yuan to conduct a more rational review of the 2025 central government budget.

Premier Cho said that while people in Taiwan have a life expectancy of 80 years, most experience up to eight disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), meaning that the government must devote immense resources to meet healthcare needs. In face of the aging population, more global and inter departmental collaboration and exchanges are needed.

Premier Cho also said that the Healthy Taiwan Promotion Committee is aiming to raise Taiwan’s average life expectancy from 79 to 82 years of age in the next eight years, as well as reducing the proportion of DALY from 10% to 8%, adding the Cabinet will fully support the Ministry of Health and Welfare in developing comprehensive strategies to build a healthier Taiwan through interministerial collaboration.
