2017 Bio Taiwan kicked off to showcase the biotech industry in Taiwan

The 2017 Bio Taiwan kicked off on the 29th with an opening speech made by Vice President, Dr Chen Chien-Jen.  Dr Chen expressed that this event is to be a showcase for the biomedical industry in Taiwan.  He expected the industry’s achievements to be presented to the world.

 
Dr Chen expressed that good regulations can lead an industry to prosperity.  The government has already listed the biotech industry as one of the five major innovative R&D industries for future development, and carried out law amendment accordingly.  For example, the government has relaxed some regulations to encourage researches and investment in high-risk medical devices, medical science and precision medicine.

 

Dr Chen pointed out that since the “Act for the Development of Biotech and New Pharmaceuticals Industry” came into effect, 283 drug items have already qualified for the Act and 83 items have been approved for marketing.   This Act aims to promote the biotech industry as the new driving force for the economic growth in Taiwan.  The Bio Taiwan will present the R&D results of the biomedical industry in Taiwan to the world.

The event kicked off on the 29th in Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.  The Bio Taiwan is a 5-in-1 event, including forums for business opportunities, forums for emerging markets in Chinese societies, partnership matching meetings, luncheons and exhibitions.  The purpose of the event is to introduce the state-of-the-art technology and the latest business models from all over the world, and to jointly work out the future trends and strategies for the biotech industry in Taiwan.

 

The event attracts participants from 15 countries, including China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, the UK, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand and the US.  There are over 1310 exhibition booths and over 600 biotech-related companies.
