2018/06/17

The International Council for Harmonization (ICH) announced in its Assembly Meeting held in Kobe, Japan, on June 7, 2018 that the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) is now one of the official ICH Pharmaceutical Regulatory Members.  This announcement set a milestone for Taiwan’s participation in international pharmaceutical affairs.  It also endorses the quality of the medicinal products manufactured in Taiwan.  It will certainly give the industry a boost.

The ICH was founded in 1990 by the regulatory bodies of the EU, Japan and the US, as well as pharmaceutical industrial organizations.  Its mission is to harmonize the regulatory guidelines across countries.  Taiwan has been involved in the organization for a decade, taking part in establishing guidelines, running training programs and implementing regulations. Becoming an official member signifies the fact that the medicinal products manufactured in Taiwan are of high quality.

In the future, the TFDA will continue to participate in ICH-related events and activities, to create a regulatory environment in compliance with ICH requirements and to guide domestic manufacturers to follow ICH guidelines. The TFDA will work with the industry to provide the public safe and high-quality drugs.
