Nearly 40% of resident doctors working in public hospitals to be excluded from Labor Standards Act
2018/12/04

Reported by Chen Jie-ling

The Ministry of Labor announced on November 30 the inclusion of resident doctors in the Labor Standards Act will be taking place in September next year. Taipei Doctor’s Union described the inclusion as a Pyrrhic victory because 37% of resident doctors are excluded from the labor protection as they are contracted staff to public hospitals. The National Taiwan University Hospital, one of the national top-notch hospitals, for instance, may see none of its doctors being entitled to such labor protection when the law comes into effect next year and will continue to deprive the rights of doctors and patients.
