U.S. officials show interest in Taiwan’s cloud-based NHI system, an achievement that all Taiwanese should be proud of: Health Minister

The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) Facebook page in the afternoon of May 21 posted an update of Taiwan’s delegation to Geneva, with MOHW Minister Chen Shih-chung saying in a video that he conducted several bilateral meetings on Taiwan’s experience in leveraging artificial intelligence to improve health care and chronic care.  

Most notably, Minister Chen said that during one of the bilateral meetings, which were cordial and amicable as well as productive, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar expressed an interest in learning about Taiwan’s disease inspection and quarantine platforms and the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration’s training program and the cloud-based national health insurance data system.

Health Promotion Administration Director General Wang Ying-wei also shared Taiwan’s experience in improving the diabetes care network, which utilizes artificial intelligence, cloud-based management, data analytics and other technologies to raise awareness of proper diet and promote closer cooperation between patients, physicians and hospitals.

Since 2012, the MOHW has been promoting the deployment of information technology platforms for Taiwan’s medical treatment, health care and long-term care that integrates the capacities of different medical institutions as well as promoting a healthcare passbook system that provides patients with their personal health care and medical information to allow the public to be more aware of their wellbeing.
