President Tsai Ing-wen attended the International Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare on the evening of Sept. 18 and said that Taiwan is very willing to share with the world its experiences in establishing the National Health Insurance system, the hospital accreditation system, the Taiwan Patient Safety Reporting System as well the community-based Long-term Care 2.0 program and much more. President Tsai said that she hopes to help build a better future through networking and exchanges at the forum.

President Tsai said in an address that since the Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare began in 1996, the event has become one of the largest of its kind. This year marks Taiwan’s first time in holding the fall forum, which drew more than 1,200 experts from 25 countries. During her address, President Tsai extended a warm welcome to attendees and thanked Joint Commission Chairman Lin Chi-chen’s dedication in making the forum possible.

Taiwan has so much valuable experiences to share with the global medical community, from the National Health Insurance that gives people equal access to quality healthcare to the hospital accreditation system and the patient safety reporting network, as well as the community-based Long-term Care System, President Tsai said. “We are more than willing to share our experiences with the rest of the world.”

President Tsai also highlighted the forum’s focus on utilizing new technologies in medicine, from artificial intelligence to virtual reality, and noted that these areas synergize well with the 5+2 Industrial Innovation Program, which is working to develop new applications for IoT technology.

The forum will also provide an opportunity to share how Taiwan uses these technologies across different fields, President Tsai said while expressing hope that discussions will spur new ideas and possibilities.
