2020/02/07

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Feb. 6 announced two more inbound cases of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infection. The two cases were diagnosed with having pneumonia and tested positive for 2019-nCoV after being reported. The patients are currently being treated in isolation wards and in a stable condition. Hospitals and public health departments have activated investigation and tracking protocols to contain the spread of the infection. All 13 confirmed cases in Taiwan are in stable condition, and one of the patients is recovering from the illness and expected to be discharged from the hospital soon. The CECC continues to contain the coronavirus successfully. As of now, there are no signs of community-acquired infection in Taiwan.

According to the statistics collected by CECC, 55 additional cases of contraction of a new, severe and infectious pneumonia were reported in Taiwan on Feb. 5, 2020. As of writing, a cumulative total of 1,290 cases have been reported, including 13 confirmed cases, with 1,135 individuals removed from the follow-up list.

The CECC reminds the public to frequently wash their hands with soap and refrain from touching the face, mouth and nose and use proper cough etiquette. Travelers entering Taiwan must proactively report their symptoms and comply with quarantine measures. Travelers developing symptoms within 14 days of their return to Taiwan may dial 1922 (or 0800-001922), the government infection control hotline. Those with symptoms must wear face masks, seek medical attention as soon as possible and make immediate reports to doctors about travel, occupation, contact and cluster (TOCC).
